The AluSpace interior screen

Open-plan light, with a door you can close

Open-plan living is lovely until you want to keep cooking smells in the kitchen, the noise out of the lounge or the children out of your home office. A glazed internal screen gives you a proper division while the daylight still flows right through the house.

We fit the AluSpace interior screening system by Smart Architectural Aluminium, made in Britain. It has the slim, black grid look of a traditional steel screen, but in aluminium, so it is lighter, will not rust and is made to measure for your opening. The screen runs straight over your floor finish with no raised step.

The benefits

Why choose a glazed room divider

Keeps the light

Tall glass panels let daylight pass from room to room, so dividing a space does not leave one half dark.

Cuts the noise

Tested sound reduction of up to 38 dB on a fixed screen with acoustic laminated glass, and 34 to 37 dB with a door.

Made to measure

Built to your exact opening, from a single door to a full-height wall of glass, with transoms placed where you want them.

Any colour

Classic black for the industrial look, or a huge range of other colours to suit your home.

Common questions

Internal Room Dividers questions, answered

No, and that is a good thing. AluSpace is aluminium made to look like steel. It has the same slim black grid, but it is lighter, it will not rust and it usually costs less than true steel.

They help a lot. In independent sound tests a fixed AluSpace screen with 8.8 acoustic laminated glass reduced sound by 38 dB, and screens with a door achieved 34 to 37 dB.

Yes. You can combine fixed glass with a single or double hinged door, a sliding door or a pivot door, and add a lock where you need one.

Yes. The screen is designed to sit on top of a run-through floor finish, so your flooring can continue from one room to the next without a raised step.

Internal screens do not normally need planning permission. If a screen forms part of an escape route, for example in a house with rooms on a second floor, fire safety rules can apply. We will check this with you at the survey.

Black is the most popular for the industrial look, but the frames can be finished in a huge range of powder-coated colours.
