The original timber alternative

Built to look like timber, made to outlast it

Residence 9 recreates the flush sash windows found on Georgian, Victorian and country cottage homes. The sashes sit perfectly flush with the frame outside, the glass sightlines are equal all round, and the inside has the deep, decorative profile you would expect from a joiner-made window.

Underneath, it is a modern, maintenance-free window. The frame is 100mm deep with a 9-chamber design, far beefier than the typical 70mm window, which gives it excellent heat retention, sound reduction and strength. There is nothing to paint or stain, and it will not warp, swell or flake.

Residence 9 is designed and made in Britain by The Residence Collection. Ask us about seeing a sample at our showroom on Connaught Avenue, Frinton.

Common questions

Residence 9 Flush Sash Windows questions, answered

Residence 9, often called R9, is a flush sash window and door system made in Britain by The Residence Collection. It is designed to look like a traditional 19th-century timber window, but it is made from a modern, maintenance-free material that never needs painting.

Residence 9 was designed from conservation area window guidelines, and the manufacturer has had it approved in many conservation areas and on a number of Grade II listed properties. Approval is always down to your local planning authority, so we will help you check before anything is ordered.

Both work well. With 28mm double glazing, Residence 9 achieves a U-value of 1.2 W/m²K, well within Building Regulations. The frame is strong enough to take 44mm triple glazing, which brings the U-value down as low as 0.76 W/m²K if you want the warmest, quietest option.

There are 22 standard colours, including English Oak, Irish Oak, Sage, Painswick, Clotted Cream, Cotswold Green, Eclectic Grey and No. 10 Black, with more by special request. You can have one colour outside and another inside.

Both are flush sash windows from The Residence Collection. Residence 7 is flush inside and out for a cleaner, more contemporary look. Residence 9 is the flagship, with a deeper 100mm, 9-chamber frame, a decorative interior profile and the widest choice of heritage details.

Most replacement windows need trickle vents under Building Regulations. Residence 9 has a dedicated, colour-matched trickle vent cover that hides the vent from view, so the sightlines are not spoilt.
